International Programs

The Y International Program is designed for Americans and Internationals living in the New River Valley. The program provides an opportunity to meet Americans and learn about life in the community. All religions and nationalities are welcome; the program has no religious affiliation. All Y International Programs are free of charge. Download our current schedule click HERE.

Meets weekly to bring Internationals and Americans together for friendship, information, education, support, and service. All are welcome! Free childcare on site. We hope that you will join us!

Program Schedule February to April 2010

February  

 2  Fitness.   This spring we will enjoy a light fitness class each month. In February, we will focus on light stretching and aerobic exercise.
9 Valentine’s Crafts. Come make a Valentine craft to share with a loved one. We will also talk about the traditions associated with Valentine’s Day.
16 Volunteerism. We will discuss the role of volunteers in our community. You will learn about different opportunities to become involved in the community as a volunteer.
23 Mardi Gras Celebration. We will enjoy traditional Mardi Gras treats such as King Bread. We will discuss the history and tradition of this celebration.

 

March

2 Fitness. In March, our fitness class will focus on resistance exercises that can be done using your body as counter weight.
9 No Meeting. Enojy this time with family and friends.

Indoor Plants. Come learn about how to grow plants indoors. You will take
 
 
home a small potted plant to grow in your home.
 
23 Found Objects Art. Using objects collected from the Thrift Store and your home we will create small pieces of art that could be displayed in your home.
30 Easter Eggs. We will use various techniques to decorate Easter Eggs.

 

 April

6 French Conversation. Share your knowledge of French! This week, guided by French native Anne Goullier-Moore, we will learn basic French terms.
13 Fitness. This month’s fitness program will focus on the benefits of cardio activity. Weather permitting, we will take a walk outside.

27 Beadworks. We will use beads to make jewelry, picture frames and more.  

 

English Conversation Classes

These weekly classes are for Internationals who want to learn English or improve their English language skills. Besides having conversations on diverse topics, simple writing tasks, pronunciation and grammar will also be taught. Classes Meet in Blacksburg.
