Conversational Spanish Level 1
Join Ricardo Boulware for this beginning Spanish course that emphasizes oral communication and vocabulary on a variety of topics. It covers only the grammar and structure absolutely necessary for speaking. The course is intended for students with no previous knowledge of the Spanish language. Ricardo is an experienced and innovative instructor who has a passion for the Spanish language and for teaching. No text is required. Classes meet in McBryde 233 - VT Campus. $50

Italian Cinema: From Neorealism to the Present
Are you a movie buff? Instructor John Stubbs will lead a survey class of Italian films from the last 50 years. Representative films of such directors as Di Sica, Rossellim, Fellini, Salvatores, Ozpetek, Westmuller, and Virzi will be covered. Class sessions will include viewing and discussions. Recommended but not required, Peter Bondanella’s Italian Cinema: Neorealism to the Present. $50
Italian for Beginners
A course intended to develop very basic knowledge and skills in Italian conversation and grammar, stressing practical needs for travel in Italy. Learn about Italian culture and customs from native Maria Fellin. Maria is from the northern province of Trento, and has taught for the Open University as well as Virginia Tech and Radford University for many years. Students should bring this book to class: ITALIAN: A Self-Teaching Guide by Eduoardo A. Lebano, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ISBN: 0471359610. Class meets in Litton Reaves 1770 on VT Campus. $60

Japanese Anime
Whether you view your anime subtitled, raw, or dubbed, if you have watched enough of it, you most likely have learned that not all characters speak the same way. This course will provide students with a basic overview of the vocabulary and history of anime. Additionally, the course offers the interpretation of popular terminology used in Manga and Anime in Japanese language. Taught by Mac Horino, a native of Japan. $40

Japanese Calligraphy
This class will introduce students to the art of Japanese calligraphy. Students will learn the correct stroke style and order to create beautiful Japanese characters. Supplies will be provided. Taught by Mac Horino, a native of Japan. $40; plus $10 supply fee payable to instructor.

Plotting Short Stories & Novels
Learn techniques and exercises for crafting a plot that grips readers from start to finish. Through plot examples from popular works of fiction, plotting diagrams and charts, and hands-on exercises and assignments, you’ll discover techniques for crafting strong beginnings, middles, and ends. Turkish Language & Culture
This class will build on everyday conversation skills in the Turkish language, moving on to more advanced subjects involving grammar and vocabulary. Students will also learn about the influences that have shaped the Turkish culture, including geography, foods, and the lifestyle of the people.
