Support expanded community recycling facilities in the NRV through individual or corporate sponsorships. The YMCA not only recycles its own waste, it provides this valuable service to the community on North Main Street in Blacksburg, free of charge! What makes this site different is that we accept many materials that are not able to be recycled by our municipallities at this time. "Build a Guild "
Sponsor a community permaculture Demonstration Garden that willteachabout cultivating food with nature. The vision of the new Hale-YMCA Community Gardens and Park is to provide a community space for people to learn more about different ways to cultivate food in concert with the existing natural environment. Various demonstration gardens are planned across a variety of ecotones on the 15-acre site. Education signs and guild sponsorship plaques will be present at a each of the demonstration "guilds" within the gardens. The purpose of these guilds are to show that many sustainable agriculture practices can be done easily right in your own backyard! "Ytoss?"
Ytoss? is a large-scaled recycling event that targets needless waste generated during student move out at the end of the academic year. Each year, several tons of waste are diverted from local landfills and then recycled back into the student and local community a few months later at the beginning of the next academic year. Sponsorship opportunities are available for two Ytoss? events at Virginia Tech and Radford University. Show support for your local community!
Become a sponsor of "Cultivate!" a local grassroots festival being held on June 4, 2011 at the Hale-YMCA Gardens located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The event celebrates local food and cultivation resources available to those in the New River Valley. The event will showcase local producers, non-profits and businesses. Come learn about what groups, organizations, education programs and businesses are in your backyard! Get those mid-summer garden supplies from the local nurseries and farms, enroll in a community supported agriculture groups, join a local area gardening club or volunteer group. "YMCA Book Fair"
Mark your calendar for the first weekend in October and start counting down the days to the Y's BIG BOOK Fair. The event starts on Friday night at 4:30pm with over a hundred people waiting to get in! There are thousands of wonderful books in over 40 categories. Saturday the sale carries on all day and Sunday is half-price day. From modern fiction to children's books & toys, from collectible vintage albums to collectible antique books, this is an event you can't miss to sponsor! YMCA Crafts Fair - "Over 40 Years of Tradition"
The YMCA Crafts Fair is a juried Arts and Crafts Show that has taken place the second weekend in November for over 40 years. Hundreds of local residents turn out for the four day event to see the wares of artisians from across the east coast.
