The Y opened the Corning Inc. Foundation Pottery Studio and Jean Cairns’ Arts and Crafts Studio on January 17, 2011. The two rooms, located within the Y Center, provide community members an opportunity to express ideas, to communicate beyond the limits of language and to discover creative talents.
Pottery Classes at the Y
The Y offers numerous pottery classes and workshops for all levels, from beginning to advanced students. If you enroll in a class, you can use the pottery studio during open studio hours as long as your class is going on. For the full class schedule, visit the Classes page.
Y Pottery Studio Passes
There are a limited number of studio passes available. Gain access to wheels, hand building tables, shared tools and much more. Studio passes offer an affordable alternative to the set up and maintenance costs of individual studio space and provide a community of artists for learning, inspiration and companionship. Studio membership dues can be deducted by automatic payment or can be paid yearly. Please contact openuniversity@vtymca.org for more about studio pass availability or to be added to the waiting list.
Studio Hours
The studio is open from 9am to 7pm (same hours as the Thrift Shop) Monday-Saturday except for times when there is a class in the room. Please check the calendar on the studio door for weekly information about open studio hours, or give us a call at 540-961-9622. Please use the front doors of the building to enter and exit the studio and leave the studio before the building is locked and the alarm set.
