YMCA AT VIRGINIA TECH

CREATING A MORE

SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS

TOGETHER

WHAT IS YTOSS?

Ytoss is a student-led sustainability program of the YMCA at Virginia Tech, and has been leading campus sustainability efforts since 2005. Our mission is to foster a culture of reduce, reuse and recycle at Virginia Tech, while generating resources to support outreach programs of the YMCA at Virginia Tech. We work with hundreds of dedicated volunteers from Virginia Tech, as well as the Blacksburg community, to collect gently-used items on campus during student move-out and coordinate an annual sale of these items during student move-in.

It’s a simple process:  Students donate their unwanted, gently-used items at one of our collection points around campus during move-out week in May. These items are cleaned, tested and stored over the summer. Items are then re-sold at a two-day sale on campus during the first two days of student move-in in August.
